On February 17th, 1993, the New Ross Historical Society (NRHS) published its first newsletter, For the lack of a better name, they temporarily called it "The 4th Wednesday". During the February meeting, the new name "Heritage News" was decided and appeared the following month. The newsletter was developed on a temporary 6-month trial period to be discussed in July. It consisted of information contained in the archives, contributions from Ron Barkhouse (our founding president of the New Ross Historical Society), Miles Russell (our first president), Vernon S. Keddy, and many other NRHS members and the general community made the newsletters bery interesting and informative.
Articles are copied as they were originally written [as much as possible] so there will be spelling mistakes, some missing information [especially from newspaper copies] and many things that have not been corrected. There may seem to be some newsletters missing. This may be true but there is no found evidence of some, if they existed. The biggest gap is the 2012 and 2013 years as nothing has been found. This was when the NRHS was being relocated. Some articles may have ________ in them, this was in the original and was to protect the names of some individuals.
In the year 2000, the newsletter contained New Ross News from the Halifax Herald - compiled by Vernon S. Keddy These have been excluded from the newsletter as they will be included in an upcoming project.
This is in honour of our NRHS members - past and present who helped in any way. We are hoping you will enjoy all the extras that made this newsletter so popular that it lasted for over 20 years.
