Tatting (known as frivolet in France, knotting in England, and tatting in America) is a form of lace making that is believed to have originated thousands of years ago from the practices of sailors and fishermen who used various knots to create nets and decorative ropework. This knowledge was passed down to weavers, who adapted it to create lace using finer threads. The art of tatting gained popularity in the 19th century.

Handmade lace is created using a shuttle and was often used as an embellishment for caps, aprons, linens, nightgowns, children's clothing, and handkerchiefs. In 1845, nuns in Cork, Ireland, created lace through crochet, knitting, and tatting, selling their beautiful creations to raise money for the poor. By the early 1900s, needle tatting began to emerge.

This 4-hour workshop is designed for anyone interested in learning the art of shuttle tatting. Participants will receive instruction on how to read a simple tatting pattern, including the various acronyms and symbols commonly found in tatting instructions.

To ensure personalized attention, this workshop is limited to 6 participants.
