Carmen Legge grew up on a small mixed farm near Kentville, Nova Scotia, where oxen were part of daily life. The men in his family were almost all teamsters and used their oxen on the fields and in the woods. 

In this handbook, Carmen shares his knowledge on raising a steer, training it as an ox and using it on farms and in the woods. The reader will be guided through all the details of making shoes, yokes, ox bells, or anything else that might be useful knowledge for teamsters. The relative advantages of various cattle breeds are evaluated while allowing for individual preference.
